21-year-old Yasan Chang was born to Jamaican parents. Her father being from St. Elizabeth and her mother being from Christiana makes her a first-generation American that was born and raised in Philadelphia.
Yasan loves to sing, write, dance, and learn about the environment along with creative ways we as a people can live more sustainably. She currently attends the Community College of Philadelphia with a major in Environmental Science. If she wins Miss Caribbean US 2022 -2023, she will use her social media platforms as well as her presence in schools, housing shelters, and foster homes to teach and encourage children and young adults the importance of knowing your worth, and how to actively change your perspective to make what feels impossible possible regardless of our beginnings.
She strongly believes that we do not have to remain as victims in toxic environments nor to whatever statistics tell us that we are or will be. She believes that we can change our environment and our circumstances despite our socioeconomic backgrounds, but it starts with shifting the perspective of how we view life and how we view ourselves.
